SU baseball team get help with Lee-Hines repairs

It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride for Southern coach Roger Cador since Hurricane Gustav ravaged Baton Rouge in August. Not only did the storm alter routines of every athletic team on campus, but its winds left significant damage to Lee-Hines Field. One hundred fifty five days after Gustav, the SU administration has yet to repair the fields’ first base dugout and outfield wall. Full story

Grambling outlasts Southern

NEW ORLEANS—After Southern came out of the tunnel dawning new columbia blue Bayou Classic jerseys and seniors Glenn Bell, Joseph Selders and Vince Lands made their way to midfield for the coin toss, it was apparent there was a sense of urgency.  A sense of urgency that time was coming to an end. A sense of urgency that this could possibly be their last game in those blue jerseys, a sense of urgency that their college careers could be coming to an end sooner than expected if the Jaguars didn’t emerge victorious. Southern’s athletic program put the finishing touches on one of its better weeks in recent history Wednesday. For starters, SU football head coach Pete Richardson and athletic director Greg LaFleur took part in the schools ceremony for its A.W. Injury bug bites women; men look to extend winning streak

As usual, Southern women’s head coach Sandy Pugh has her squad right in the thick of things as Southwestern Athletic Conference play begins to heat up. But with a crucial swing through Alabama this weekend matching the Jaguars against Alabama State on Saturday and league-leading Alabama A&M on Jan. 24, SU will travel with only eight players on its active roster. Bayou Classic loss answered many questions for Southern fans

NEW ORLEANS—After Southern’s less-than-stellar performance in Saturday’s Bayou Classic, something questioned all season became crystal clear. If coaches were graded on creativity, SU offensive coordinator Mark Orlando would be at the bottom of his class in almost every category. Maybe even SU defensive coordinator Terrance Graves as well. Yes. As it seems, Orlando only gets creative in the annual Bayou Classic. Full story
