DJ LeMahieu's RBI single into centerfield gave LSU their first lead of the game.

And just like that, a flood gate of base hits, runs and costly errors altered the momentum of the game.

Chase Richard final line: 6.23 inning, 7 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), 1 BB.

For the LSU in the seventh:

7 runs, 6 hits, 2 errors, 0 LOB

Weather forces Jaguars hand

5/29/09 3:54 PM

Romey Bracey just ran in to replace James Armstrong at left field. Stevenson had to be stretched out by head trainer Alex Hawkins.

After a 5-minute delay and several cups of water, Armstrong trotted off the field.

Ross' day at the Box done.

Austin Ross' outing at the 2009 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional is done.

The 6-2, Shreveport native recorded 10 Ks, tying his career high.

Ross' line: 6.23 innings, 7 hits, 2 run (both earned) and 10 Ks.

Sidebar: Since crushing a two-run homer in the first, Victor Franklin is 0-for-3, all strikeouts.

Errant throw cost Jaguars one run, Chase gets out of a jam.

5/29/09 3:29 PM

With one bad throw by catcher Michael Thomas, LSU's Ryan Schimpf stolen base turn into the Tigers first run of the game.

Richard and the Jaguars bounced back and got out of the inning with a double play turned by 2B Ozzie Lamis.

Coming into the top of the seventh, the Jaguars can no longer afford to strand runners and haphazardly hack away at the plate.

Manufactoring runs is the name of the game at this pivotal juncture.

Patience is a virtue, especially in Baseball

Easily the Jaguars worst inning.

Three pitches, three flyouts.

Coach Cador is left shaking his head.

Chants of L-S-U rain down from the concourse.

Three up, Three down

5/29/09 2:57 PM

The Jaguars went down in order in the top of the 4th inning.

Hustle moment of the 4th: As right fielder Jared Mitchell tracked down a foul ball down the right field line, he ran out real estate and hit the tarp.

One pitch later, Ross recorded his ninth strikeout.

In the bottom of the 4th, Tigers continue to hit into the teeth of the SU defense, keeping Richards pitch count low and his right arm fresh.

Gregory Whitfield made a nice play at third and flipped the fielder choice out at second to end the inning.

Southern leads 2-0 with Todd Stevenson coming to the plate.

Like a Boss

If there where any pregame jitters in the belly of LSU starting pitching Austin Ross, the quickly exited after Franklin's two-run bomb in the first.

Ross has retired seven SU batters with Ks.

For the second straight inning, SU left a runner in scoring position.
